You may receive communication that you have been deferred by admissions. This can be disappointing but it is not the end of the road! Deferral means that your application will be reviewed with the regular admissions pool.
What to do if you are deferred?
Follow the directions on the deferral letter - some colleges may want for you to submit a letter to confirm continued interest
Reach out to the admissions office - let them know that you received a deferral and want to know how you can make your application as strong as possible. Is there anything you can add to your application? (Test scores, a letter of recommendation, etc). Keep your conversations positive and hopeful!
Send an updated midyear transcript (request this with Ms. Benton)
If you have not visited the school, plan a visit and connect with admissions, many schools track level of interest.
Some colleges may request that you submit your mid-year transcript. These will be available after report cards are sent home (Jan 10). If you have a college requesting a mid-year report or a mid-year transcript, please reach out to Ms. Benton and she will submit these.
Why do colleges want mid-year transcripts? If a college is still trying to decide your admission status, a mid-year transcript could help them finalize a decision. This is a chance for admissions to see how you have performed academically during your first semester of senior year.
Only five months left of high school! Let’s make it AMAZING!!

Your Acceptance and Scholarship Letters!
It is that time of year where you will begin receiving acceptance letters from colleges! As you receive acceptances and scholarship offers, please forward these to Ms. Benton. You can forward the email, take a screenshot or print the letter and drop it off with Ms. Benton. Each year we like to keep track of all scholarship dollars offered to our seniors. Even if you do not plan to use the scholarship, we encourage you to submit the letter so that we know it was offered.
Hopefully you have also already submitted your FAFSA during December, but if not, please do so this month! Even if you do not think you will qualify for financial aid, we encourage you to submit the FAFSA as many times colleges want you to complete this to be eligible for scholarships! We hope that you will begin getting financial aid letters in March. Remember you do not have to decide what college you want to attend until May 1. We recommend that you wait and see your financial aid offers before you commit to a college. To view your application status and financial aid letter, please make sure you have created a student portal account for each college you applied to.
There are several local scholarship deadlines approaching. We encourage all of you to apply!! See below for upcoming important dates! Please don’t forget to check our scholarship information page often as we are adding new opportunities every week!
