In light of adequate preparation for the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) and changes in medical school requirements, students should incorporate classwork in the following areas into their curriculum:

Freshmen -
Get connected to info. Take Gchem & Foundations of Biology (if possible). Talk to doctors you know about shadowing opportunities. Join the AU Pre-med club.
Get connected to any pre-med newsletters that you can.
Make sure you are listed as a "pre-med" student in iVue. Send email to majorchange@andrews.edu if you need to get this.
Sophomores -
Stay involved with the pre-med club and get important information on MCAT prep, med school info.
Get shadowing hours.
Juniors -
Fillout PRC application: PRC = Professional recommendation committee. Your chemistry, biology, physics, etc faculty all get together and write one "committee" recommendation for you. Please fill our application during your Spring semester Junior year. The application is due the end of the spring semester.
Get ready for MCAT, filling out Med School Application, and fill the PRC application/form.
Figure out when you will take the MCAT: early summer, late summer, etc.
Get shadowing hours.
If someone from Loma Linda Medical visits...attend any meetings and introduction interviews (spring of Junior year).

Apply Early!!
Start in May....finish in early in June!!
July could be too late!
Example due dates for 2024. "The 2024 AMCAS application opens on May 1, 2024, and applications can be submitted starting May 28, 2024."
Apply to Medical Schools using the AMCAS system. The application needs to be done EARLY in June.
You do not need an MCAT score or recommendation letters at the time of submitting your application.

Get the process going and get your place in line
Take MCAT = only certain dates/times are available in many locations throughout the U.S. Late June or July are typical test dates.
Senior Year
Finish any applications, primary and secondaries.
Make sure you have completed your pre-med courses.
Attend interviews at Medical Schools
If someone from Loma Linda Medical visits...attend any meetings and conduct med school interviews (fall of senior year).
