PESTLE ANALYSIS

POLITICAL

  • New mayor, Ed Gainey (presumed) beginning 2021

    • First Black mayor

  • City heavily Democratic

  • IMPACT: City-wide audience likely interested in/amenable to diverse stories


ECONOMIC

  • Hosting TCG Conference in 2022 - may lead to both increased or decreased funds

  • Unemployment rates decreased from July 2020-July 2021

  • Pittsburgh area change in unemployment higher than the national average

  • IMPACT: Lots of funding available in the city. In 2022, eyes on the city because of TCG conference, so we have the ability to set the tone.


SOCIAL

  • Racial Justice Commitments and Action Plans

  • "half of the vaccinated respondents aren’t going out until epidemiological conditions improve"

  • Pittsburgh's high level of cultural vibrancy -- high inherent interest in the arts

  • IMPACT: Ingrained audience, with clear paths forward for recruiting new audience members


TECHNOLOGICAL

  • Accessibility Technology

  • Livestreaming Performances

  • Presence of automation companies -- ability to utilize to produce better automation?

  • IMPACT: Highly funded tech companies with potential for additional donations. Potential for partnerships to increase technical capabilities at O'Reilly.


LEGAL

  • Allegheny Regional Asset District provides funds through taxes -- legally codified and guaranteed support

  • EITC -- PPT could get additional funds for educational programming thanks to this legal tax incentive program offered by the state

  • IMPACT: Legally friendly environment for non-profits, lots of potential for government support

    • Gainey interested in limiting powers of non-profits: how will that affect ability to earn revenue?


ENVIRONMENTAL

  • Health and Safety Protocols

  • Bad air quality leading to potentially reduced outdoor attendance

  • IMPACT: Need to be aware of air quality if doing Public Works outdoors. For Open Doors and associated tabling, need to be conscious of/cautious of unpredictable weather.
