I believe in the importance of encouraging young students to engage in science and engineering, and in the power of representation.
I am an Advisor in Simply Neuroscience's APAP, an international program that matches young students with more senior professionals in order to bridge gaps in neuroscience education and encourage brain enthusiasts around the globe. I am currently working with 2 advisees in 2 different countries.
I have participated as a judge in regional and international science fairs.
Regeneron International Science & Engineering Fair (ISEF) 2021
Covestro Pittsburgh Regional Science & Engineering Fair (PRSEF) 2019
Intel International Science & Engineering Fair (ISEF) 2018
Covestro Pittsburgh Regional Science & Engineering Fair (PRSEF) 2018
I have volunteered as teaching assistant for high school students during an outreach event organised by the Biological Sciences Department at CMU, where we introduced them to DNA agarose gels while simulating a murder mystery case for a fun and educational experience.
I am part of the CMU Psychology Department outreach program, where our goal is to share psychology and neuroscience knowledge with the general public, focusing on local and under-resourced student communities.
Transferring knowledge from the lab to the public is absolutely crucial.
I write for The Triple Helix about science policy, and I have also worked on press releases for the Carnegie Mellon Neuroscience Institute. I have participated in workshops and conferences about multilingual science communication, such as the first edition of "ComSciCon en español".
I am an active editor in Wikipedia as well, where I'm working on updating neurotechnology content and on expanding science-related articles in Spanish.
I talk about my experience with WikiEducation here, check it out!
