H Block/Advisory Overview: Identity & Self Belonging
H Block Advisory aligns with APS Core Values of providing a safe, supportive, and equitable learning environment where each member matters. Each student at Andover High School is a member of an advisory. We strive to have student advisories stay together for four years, typically with the same faculty member. Each advisory correlates with an assigned school counselor and assistant principal.
Lessons are aligned to the five CASEL competencies of self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making.
Mental Health Screenings & Supporting Curriculum
Universal Mental Health Screening (9-12) BIMAS-2: The AHS mental health team has adopted the Behavior Intervention Monitoring Assessment System (BIMAS-2) to help screen student social-emotional wellness, learning, and development. AHS is currently screening students twice a school year, once in the fall and once in the spring.
Screening, Brief Intervention, Referral to Treatment (SBIRT- Grade 9): SBIRT in Schools is a proactive approach to having conversations about substance use. APS Currently uses the SBIRT screening in grades 7 and 9.
Signs of Suicide Health Curriculum (Grades 9,11): The High School Component of the Signs of Suicide Health Curriculum is taught in our grade 9 Health classes, then skills reinforced in grade 11. Further information and resources can be found here.
