We will continue with learning about earth's resources and how we impact the environment.
*January: We finished our unit on the Space Race - this covered development of strong background knowledge - and how that shapes understanding of what we read -- as well as covering strong research skills. We continued into a third unit that applied research skills where we wrote our own mini-research papers over the topic of teens and social media usage using MLA formatting. The kids did an incredible job. Final published essays are due Friday 1/30/26.
* February: We will begin our 4th unit centered around the graphic novel Frankenstein. Because the text is extremely complex, we will focus on paraphrasing 19th-century English. As we read, we will analyze irony, perspective, character development, theme, conflict, and cause-and-effect relationships, while also using both the text and visuals to make inferences and support our ideas with evidence.
NEW BOOK PROJECTS have also been introduced! Due WEDNESDAY 2/25!

From Revolution to the Republic
Update: Unit Assessment Update
Instead of a traditional unit test, students will complete two project-based performance activities designed to measure deeper understanding and real-world application of course concepts.
• Performance Task 1: Students will analyze real-world scenarios and explain how a relevant constitutional principle applies.
• Performance Task 2: Students will examine multiple sources and write a Claim–Evidence–Reasoning (CER) response to demonstrate their understanding.
These assessments emphasize critical thinking, source analysis, and written explanation—skills that align closely with classroom instruction and state standards.
Update: Students will receive a weekly effort and participation score that reflects their engagement, preparedness, and participation during class activities. To encourage consistent effort, the specific days used to determine this score will be randomly selected each week. This approach helps reinforce positive learning habits and accountability while keeping expectations fair and transparent.
