9/4 Update: We will be wrapping up the Science Skills Unit next week. Over the past few weeks we have explored how scientists observe phenomena, design experiments, and collect and analyze data. We will have one final lab in this unit, The Bubble Lab, next Tuesday and Wednesday. Our first quiz will be on Friday, 9/11. The quiz will have 20 multiple choice questions and will be a mastery grade. Students received their study guide and vocabulary sheet in class today, 9/4. These documents are also posted in Google Classroom. Students can work on the study guide over the next week. We will review the study guide answers in class next Thursday, 9/10.

Week of 9/7 - 9/11: While working on applying figurative language to Roald Dahl's novel Boy, it was clear our 6th graders needed a little more time to make sure they full understand figurative language elements. Therefore, we are working on completing Figurative Language Toolboxes to ensure (1) we have taken time to look at and understand each element and (2) we have a tool we can then go back and use any time we are confused. Additionally, students will begin learning about ClEvRLi (Claim, Evidence, Reasoning, Link) writing this week. And, as usual, on Friday we will continue our work reading 3 different genres and working toward answering our Great Reading Project Question: Why is reading important to society?
Because of the short week, we will not have a grammar focus this week. The students will still have vocab this week, however, and they will have a quiz of this week and last week's vocab as well as affect/effect from last week this Friday 9/11.

Week of 8/31-9/4 - We will have our first test on Tuesday. This will be over adding and subtracting rational numbers. Then we will begin our next unit, Multiplying and Dividing Rational Numbers.
Week of 9/8-9/11 - We will be wrapping up Unit 3 with our Unit test on Friday, Sept. 11.
Welcome to Middle School! I am so excite to meet everyone and start a fabulous year! We will start our year off with a unit about Historical skills! We will review the parts of the CER structure, questioning, making inferences, and analyzing artifacts using a historical mystery as an example. Students will explore artifacts, theories, and methods used by historians and scientist to explain "How do we know History happened?". We will also review map and timeline skills before launching into our first historical time period of Prehistory in a few weeks!

Weeks 3-5 in Social Studies- we are diving into our first Historical Inquiry! Students will be exploring an unknown historical figure through artifacts and building thier historical skills of questioning, gathering evidence, determining relevant evidence, building claims, and supporting claims with well reasoned evidence.
