10/9 Update: This week we wrapped up our investigation on how a lid helps maintain temperature and mass by preventing water vapor from escaping. Next week, we will continue to look at this concept at the particle level by modeling phase changes and particle motion. There will be a quiz on Friday, 10/16. This will cover lessons 1-5 in our science notebook and phase changes (evaporation, condensation, etc.) Students will receive a study guide in class on Monday, 10/12.

Week of 10/12 - 10/16: We have finished out reading of Dahl's Boy and our general work in Amplify for this unit. We will start the week with a graded ClEvREvRLi to showcase the writing skills we have been working on over the past two weeks. The students will, then, be given a study guide to complete for the test. They will be allowed to use these study guides on the test, so they are very important!
The Unit 1 Test will be on Tuesday 10/20 & Wednesday 10/21
We will not have a grammar focus this week as I want the students' focus to be primarily on preparing for the test.
Keep in mind: 3 books and the Great Reading Project are DUE Friday 11/6 (the end of Trimester 1). This may seem very far away, but it will sneak up fast! Feel free to check in with your student as well to make sure they are on pace to complete this!

Welcome to Middle School! I am so excite to meet everyone and start a fabulous year! We will start our year off with a unit about Historical skills! We will review the parts of the CER structure, questioning, making inferences, and analyzing artifacts using a historical mystery as an example. Students will explore artifacts, theories, and methods used by historians and scientist to explain "How do we know History happened?". We will also review map and timeline skills before launching into our first historical time period of Prehistory in a few weeks!

Weeks 3-5 in Social Studies- we are diving into our first Historical Inquiry! Students will be exploring an unknown historical figure through artifacts and building thier historical skills of questioning, gathering evidence, determining relevant evidence, building claims, and supporting claims with well reasoned evidence.
