9/18 Update: This week we investigated why the temperature of a liquid changes faster in one cup system compared to another cup system. We worked as a class to create questions for our Driving Question Board (DQB), which we will revisit many times this unit. Next week, students will be testing out different cup features (lid/no lid, different materials, hot vs cold) to see if those parts of a system affect how the cup maintains temperature.

Week of 10/5 - 10/9: We are continuing to work our way through Roald Dahl's autobiography Boy. We are reading, analyzing, comparing, and connecting. We will have opportunities to act out scenes and grapple with ClEvRLi writing (getting stronger at this is a process) both individually and as a group.
Keep in mind: 3 book and the Great Reading Project are DUE Friday 11/6 (the end of Trimester 1). This may seem very far away, but it will sneak up fast! This week, we will make sure we have a document created and linked with our writing piece for the project in mind so that students can stay on track with balancing the reading and project.
Our grammar focus this week will be paralell structure. We pushed our previous quiz to the beginning of this week, so there will not be a quiz at the end of the week.

Week of 9/21-9/24 - We will continue in Unit 4 this week. We will have a quiz on Thursday over Lessons 4.1, 4.2, and 4.3. We will take the opportunity on Friday to have some more board game play time. These projects have been great!
Welcome to Middle School! I am so excite to meet everyone and start a fabulous year! We will start our year off with a unit about Historical skills! We will review the parts of the CER structure, questioning, making inferences, and analyzing artifacts using a historical mystery as an example. Students will explore artifacts, theories, and methods used by historians and scientist to explain "How do we know History happened?". We will also review map and timeline skills before launching into our first historical time period of Prehistory in a few weeks!

Weeks 3-5 in Social Studies- we are diving into our first Historical Inquiry! Students will be exploring an unknown historical figure through artifacts and building thier historical skills of questioning, gathering evidence, determining relevant evidence, building claims, and supporting claims with well reasoned evidence.
