Greetings!
I am choosing to share with you information directly from the Grand Lodge in San Jose, CA regarding the Law of AMRA. Both the Mountain Rose Pronaos and Pikes Peak Atrium operate financially under The Law of AMRA. The principle of AMRA is often misunderstood.
The law of AMRA is a human law. According to the archives of our Order it was practiced in ancient Egypt, especially among adepts of the mystery schools.
The law of AMRA must not be confused with the law of karma, which is known as the “law of compensation.” From the Rosicrucian point of view the principle of karma is that people reap what they have sown, not only in this present life, but also from one incarnation to another. According to this principle, every thought, word and action constitutes a cause, the effect of which will sooner or later be translated into events, sometimes favorable and sometimes unfavorable. Karma can be positive or negative, pleasant or unpleasant, depending on how we apply our free will. The law of karma is therefore a cosmic law, applied in an impersonal and immutable manner in the life of every human being, whether or not he or she is aware of it. Once we have set it in motion, there is no way we can avoid or influence its action. No one can oppose it, because it is the expression of Divine Justice.
The law of AMRA can be the expression of our gratitude for a benefit received, provided that the benefit does not relate to any material acquisition or financial gain. Some Rosicrucians apply this law when they have had the simple pleasure of passing an agreeable time in company with interesting people. Some use it to thank the Cosmic for assistance given during times of moral difficulty. Others put it into practice when they have received support from the Celestial Sanctum. Everyone has their individual reasons for participating in AMRA. One may use it for what is considered to be a Cosmic gift for an action, which another might consider is due to their own merit. We should always regard every benefit - even if we attribute it to something we ourselves have thought, said or done - as having been permitted by the Cosmic. When we live according to its principles, the law of AMRA works through us for the greatest good of ourselves and those around us.
Before considering the manner in which the law of AMRA can be applied, we must understand that there is never any obligation for its use. It must be freely given and without mental reservation.
Every time the law of AMRA is applied it must be in an impersonal manner. It is not always possible to hide our identity, but it must be done with discretion, being careful not to expect credit from anyone for having made financial contributions or sharing the amount of their financial contributions with others. As far as the Cosmic is concerned, to boast of having contributed financially to the benefit of an individual or collective group diminishes the merit of the donor.
It is the same when our contribution to the law of AMRA relates to a service rendered to others. The rule of humility and impersonality must be predominant in all actions which we undertake in the service of Good.
The action of attending the Pronaos or Atrium constitutes a special dimension of the law of AMRA. A member can be part of the Affiliated Body by serving as an officer or as a member of one of its committees. This involves certain obligations, but it is the gift of oneself and one’s time which provides further evidence of our gratitude to the Cosmic and the wisdom which animates us. The simple fact of regularly taking part in convocations is a form of AMRA, because this helps to generate thought-forms, beneficial to the service of Good and therefore constitutes humanitarian work, in the noblest meaning of the phrase.
To summarize the law of AMRA: It is a human law by which we can express our gratitude to the Cosmic. In applying it regularly in our life a Rosicrucian proves they are conscious of belonging to a mystical Order devoted to the service of a greater Order, namely: that of all humanity living on this Earth. We should be continually aware of it, because no day passes without our receiving, in one way or another, some earthly benefit. In return, no day should pass without our finding a way to thank the God of our Hearts for the privilege of following the glorious path of the Rosy-Cross and for partaking in full consciousness in the development of Cosmic Evolution.
I hope this information helps to clarify for everyone the true meaning of AMRA.
With wishes for Peace Profound,
