“Beauty Revealed”
As we pass the Winter Solstice and move into the depths of winter, it’s easy to feel a little low with the added hours of darkness and the chill in the air. However, there’s a beauty inherent in this quiet time of the year, a time of stillness during a gentle snowfall, the silence of civilization within a howling blizzard, and the tinkling of diamond-like water drops from tree branches losing their snow to the brilliant sunlight after a storm. To me, it’s a time for reflection and meditation, a time to release my energies to the universe, to go forth among the stars and commune with those functioning on other planes of existence.
This is also the time of year when asking those complex questions – Why are we here? What is the meaning of life? What’s the point of our existence? – becomes easier. We tend to be less easily distracted with the hustle and bustle of civilization; we’re past the holidays, the parties and social functions, the focus on material gifts, and we’re left with these questions. These three questions (and there are obviously others, as well) are really asking the same thing. Is there a purpose to humanity’s existence, and, if so, what is it?
All the great mystics throughout history have addressed this quest, this seeking. Many have pointed out that what matters IS the quest, the searching, because this reveals what is inside each of us, our character, and identifies what the soul personality needs in this lifetime. The more we seek, the more we find, and the more beauty of our existence, our planet, our SPACE, is revealed to us. The search can also reveal weaknesses in our character that we have somehow fostered and encouraged, which allows us the opportunity to address them, to evaluate what has allowed them to take root, and provides illumination towards the elimination of these weaknesses. And, as the beauty of our existence is revealed, the questions cease to matter.
We are encouraged by AMORC to engage in at least daily meditation, which includes the use of the Celestial Sanctum. Past Imperator H. Spencer Lewis shared his imagery of a magnificent cathedral in the clouds as a place to go in our visual meditation of the Celestial Sanctum. I prefer the use of nature’s imagery for my meditations; one of the visual images that I use frequently is that of a babbling brook, based on a place I hiked to in Golden Gate Canyon when I was thirteen and enhanced by a powerful recurring dream from that same time period. As I sit leaning against a tree, watching the sparking water flow over and around the boulders and pebbles, the sun dappling everything around me, I’m at peace with the universe. There are no more questions, only peace, harmony, beauty, light, life, and love.
With all good wishes for Peace Profound!
