Soror Anne in New Zealand
"Prosperity - what does that mean?
I think of prosperous as having money 💰, lots of it, which I’ve never had.
My prosperity envelope is empty, being born into a family mentality of poverty 💰, since the womb.
It feels comfortable, poverty 💰."
ON BEING A DIGITAL HERMETIC HERMIT
Much of our country has been practicing some form of social isolation since early spring of this year that western culture calls 2020. To many this has been a dramatic change in adopting the habits of a lifestyle based in radical alone-time with oneself. This may have been a shocking change from normalcy to many, but can also lead oneself into a state of retreat from the world that if taken willingly can be an experience of true hermitage, and a profound gateway to go deeper and commune with the master within.
I myself took a certain vow of hermitage ten years ago when moving to the San Luis Valley of Colorado from the front range of Colorado Springs. I became a member of AMORC after meeting a friend who would turn out to be an invaluable spiritual ally as my Class Master in AMORC on the auspicious date of 7-7-2007. For several years after joining AMORC while I lived in Colorado Springs I attended the Pikes Peak Atrium and had regular connections with sorors and fratres, but there are no formal groups of Rosicrucians here in the SLV and no easy way to travel six to eight hours round trip for meetups with groups around the state.
I took on this move in many ways to find refuge and inspiration in nature and continue my creative work from home so as to remain undisturbed by the business of city life. The nature of my work is and continues to be documentary film; live conference / event production; broadcast; internet streaming, and this work has actually become more invigorated by many unexpected global connections made in my small rural community of Crestone, CO (but that is another story entirely).
Although I miss the familiarity with friends in AMORC, I don't feel disconnected or that I am missing out by not being able to attend regular Atriums or events. I find that I am still simmering in the same invisible egregore of Ascended Masters who are always nearby, if only we wish them to be.
The Rosicrucian path is profound and potent infusion and education through the monographs, attunements, and initiations that it offers. It is, however, a slow path and those looking for weekend seminars in enlightenment need not apply! The time with which I have been afforded to wait for my monographs in stillness and to attune to their content has itself been profound.
It has not always been easy to understand or accept certain reflections that my sanctum contact offers my awareness during meditation, but this too has been a crucial part of my personal and spiritual growth: building resilience and discernment through my own efforts, especially through difficulties. When questions do arise, my class master, and fraters and sorors are often available to help with a phone call, but to me, the most profound teacher is the same “master within” who is often referred to in our monographs. To me, this teacher appears in silence. It is not dissimilar to my conscience; the soft voice of compassion and discernment. It may not speak often, or loudly, but to listen and to act on the reflections of this teacher can be transformative and sublime. I have found in many ways through experience that one can stay connected to the life-light and love of the cosmic, even when isolated, even when circumstances seem impossible.
In early spring of this year I felt that the same “hermitage” which I had taken on had unexpectedly fallen on everyone else in the country, and feeling a bit lonely for connection myself, I wrote to AMORC's Regional Officers in Colorado. Together, we began a discussion about how members of AMORC could all begin to meet up “digitally” around the state of Colorado and stay connected. Once AMORC’s Grand Lodge in San Jose adopted rules for regional groups to utilize Zoom for meetings, we were quick to start regular bi-monthly programs.
So far this spring and summer of 2020, we have shared an amazing collection of Rosicrucian teachings including : weekly discussions on points of the RC Code of life, wonderful lessons on alchemy, the history of our order, many meditations, healing sounds, and wonderful sharing of prayers and experience from so many fraters and sorors from around the world!
In a short time I have gone from being an isolated member connected by the invisible, to a member who is very visibly connected by new friendships to many dear fraters and sorors around the world. This new “Digital Atrium” has become an amazing tool, and an incredible opportunity to meet and connect with many previously unknown friends and fellow AMORC members far outside of Colorado who have become regulars on these regional zoom meetings.
It has been healing and connecting for us all in this time of challenge to share stories and experience from AMORC members of all ages, races, genders and geographical locations. To feel connected to a larger living body of adepts of many different degrees is deeply heartwarming. To me it feels like a blossoming of spiritual connection and creation that is having an impact on powerful subtle levels even if we don't see it on the surface.
So many people coming together to share their light and wisdom can only be a good thing. I am grateful that AMORC has become a presence in the new wave of global “zoom-ing” and that we are using this technology as a force for life light and love!
Once we are able to congregate in-person again I hope that those of us far away from regional bodies can remain connected for less frequent meetups. I pray that the lessons of these challenging opportunities for hermitage and community may stay with us, and that in the stillness and silence we may all befriend the master within.
