Māori Netball is the vehicle through which Waka deliver a Healthy Lifestyles programme to kotiro / wahine Māori and their whānau from babies through to elders. Waka foster excellence in health and sport, accessing local services to support their regional activities. The programme culminates with our annual National Tournament bringing together the ten Waka from throughout Aotearoa.
Key lifestyles messages that our Māori Netball Waka deliver as part of the annual programme may include but are not limited to – Ko Wai Au (who am I) – fostering a clear sense of identity and cultural integrity so that whānau have control over their own destiny), Auahi Kore (Smokefree), Taihoa (Ease Up on the Drink), Kori Tinana (Physical Activity with a particular emphasis on the Netball Smart Injury Prevention programme) and Kai Tōtika (Nutrition with a particular focus on Wai Māori as the first choice of hydration).
Waka also respond to the healthy lifestyles messaging needs of their current membership each year, accessing a variety of health and social services to support their programmes focusing on issues of most relevance to their members.
