Howdy!  It is hard to believe that we are already a quarter of the way through the year.  I have enjoyed getting to know all of your kids, even the overly energetic ones!  While I am just meeting many kids in this class, it seems like I have some past connection with most of them, having taught someone related to them.  As we move into the second quarter, it seems that all of my classes are settling down and are ready to focus on their Senior Projects.  

Today is the first official day of work on the project. We did some early brainstorming at the start of the year; at that time, you should have been presented with a brief explanation of the project and asked to sign, acknowledging that you'd seen the information.  I have found that stress (in both parents and kids) is lower if I make information more readily available.  This week, the kids will start formally proposing their project ideas, and then we will quickly move into the research paper, which will be our sole focus until Winter Break (so you are likely to hear some complaining the paper).

The second part of the Senior Project, the physical project, won't formally start until we get back from Winter Break.  We will begin with planning, and then move on to working on it; the kids have until the middle of April to complete that task.  

Within this website, I have attached the Senior Project materials and the calendar of activities/deadlines.  Additionally, you'll find the weekly calendar of classroom activities (dating back to the start of the year).  This calendar is updated weekly, so you can see what the kids are working on in class.
