College Writing will not be offered the 2025-26 school year. It will return for the 2026-27 school year! We will be offering WR 121.
GENERAL CLASS DESCRIPTION
College Writing is a College Credit Now class, in partnership with Chemeketa Community College. For the cost of $35 (for all college classes taken in a year), a student can attain significant college credit while in high school. In writing, the college classes offered this year are WR 115 and WR121. WR 115 is a writing class designed to prepare students for reading, writing, and critical thinking. This class should help the kids to recover any lost writing skills from last spring, and escalate their school habits to a level of collegiate expectation. WR 121 is the preliminary class required for all college freshmen. By taking College Writing in high school, students will have the opportunity to get 4 required college credits for a nominal fee.
The schedule for the year
The first step in College Writing is to register with Chemeketa and receive a K#, which is their Chemeketa ID. Then they need to go through the placement assessment process to see what class they are most prepared to take. Students do not need to go through the placement process to take College Writing at Amity High School, but they do have to do it to get college credit. See the link below for the placement test instructions.
Once we have a better idea of class eligibility, we'll schedule class registration. Students who are placed into WR 115 will register for that class in January. WR 115 grades will be submitted at the end of Winter Term (March). Students who are placed into WR 121 will register for class in April, and grades will be submitted in June. Transcripts for those classes are usually available 2 weeks following grade submission. It is the responsibility of the student to express the desire for credit and to register with Chemeketa for the class. I will be able to provide the registration instructions and information, but I cannot do the registration process for them.
