STEM Academy offering programs in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (subjects known collectively as “STEM”) for High School Juniors and Seniors in Virginia’s Region 2000/Lynchburg regional area. Located on the campus of Central Virginia Community College – XLR8 offers academic and technical training related to careers in engineering, mechatronics, biotechnology, health science and cyber security.
The STEM Program has four pathways: Mechatronics, Biotechnology, Cybersecurity, and Health Science
Students can earn up to 44 college credits
Students can earn up to 2 career studies certificates from CVCC
All STEM classes are weighted courses for Grade Point Average calculations for base school transcripts
The STEM Academy is a half day program housed at Lynchburg CVCC. Students will return to ACHS in the afternoons for english, history, and elective courses.
Tuition is paid by the school division and books are paid for by the families.
Students may drive to the STEM Academy or bus transportation will be provided to and from ACHS
Must be enrolled in Algebra II (or higher math)
Must be enrolled in Chemistry (or higher science)
Must be in the 10th grade at the time of applying

Make contact with your teachers that you would like to fill out an electronic recommendation form for your application. It is best to give them a two week notice.
You will need a math teacher a science teacher, and one other academic teacher to serve as a reference for your application.
