State Requirements
Nursing:
Board of Nursing Clearance - Amarillo College cannot issue a Nursing license, only the Board of Nursing can issue you a license. In order for you to attend course clinicals and sit for the State Board of Nursing testing you must first be cleared by the Texas Board of Nursing. To be cleared you must complete a fingerprinting appointment and will go through an FBI-level background check. This process will start after you have been accepted into a Nursing Program. Further information about starting this process will be relayed upon acceptance.
If you have any offenses on your background you may have to complete a "declaratory order" for the Board of Nursing. You may have to submit court documents involving the offense(s) for reviewing; you also may have to complete other requirements from the Board of Nursing to be cleared for testing and this could take 6 months or longer to obtain. If you are unable to secure clearance you will have to drop your Nursing courses and cannot continue in the program until clearance has been secured.
If you have ever had any offenses, you can review the Texas Board of Nursing webpage to see if you may have an issue with your Licensure Eligibility. If you answer "yes" to any of the questions listed on the site, you may want to ready your court documents for submission and prepare to start a declaratory order.
