Important information:
Once you quit band, you will not come back - even if you think you will
This is because you miss out on a year of instruction and lose the skills you have
Doing band in high school gives you an extra elective because marching band fulfills your P.E. credit!
Therefore there is no need to quit band to take high school credit courses
If you really like band... STAY!
If you want to try other things, wait until 8th grade to get an extra elective so you can do both!
Band is fun!
The longer you stay in band, the more fun things you get to participate in!

Band improves your brain!
*All-State Students = Top achieveing band, orchestra, and choir students in the state of Texas
How does this work?
During the time band students are in our programs they learn:
Time management skills
Balancing school work with band rehearsals and other clubs/activities
Critical Thinking/Listening skills
Knowing WHO to listen for/balance to in a piece of music
Self-assessment skills
"Am I making the best sound I can?"
"Am I achieving everything I am asked to do successfully?"
"What can I do better, what do I need to work on, and how will I achieve my goals?"
Multi-Tasking skills
"Am I making my best sound, am I articulating firmly, am I playing correct notes and rhythms, am I balancing to the melody ALL AT THE SAME TIME?"
Stress management skills
Band students are MORE LIKELY to be successful at handling interviews and other stressful situations because they are used to the pressure of performing
Your BRAIN gets better get functioning!
Being involved with music bridges the gap between the left and right side of the brain. Music is both logical and expressive
You learn how to be awesome independently, but also how to work on a team
Being in band is without a doubt a team function, but the group success cannot be achieved without individual work or success either
What can band do FOR YOU?
College Admissions
Colleges generally look for students who demonstrate commitment and passion in their activities, regardless of the activity type. The long-term involvement in band can stand out just as much as participation in sports or other extracurriculars. Admissions committees will be interested in seeing their growth and leadership in band over the years.
For instance, if they've advanced to first chair, organized performances, or mentored younger band members, these are all significant contributions that showcase their dedication and impact. It's not just about the type of activity, but what they've done with it and how it's shaped them as a person.
Life Long Friendships
Many of the band kids become very good friends past high school due to the intimacy of the activity. Kids grow closer to each other because music making is both fun and an incredibly special thing.
Leadership Opportunities
As kids go through the band program, there are many opportunities where kids can lead with more responsibility. In junior high, kids are able to lead their instrument section by being "first chair", meaning they are the top performing player in their section. In high school, there are more opportunities such as being Drum Major, Drill Instructor, or Section Leader for the marching band.
