The Percussion program is open to selected Manvel High School Band students by audition and approval by the directors. The Battery Percussion consists of snare drum, tenor drum, and bass drum; the Front Ensemble (Pit) Percussion consists of marimba, vibes, concert rack accessories and keyboard synth. Percussion Ensemble is the designation for all percussion at the end of marching season, with a Percussion Ensemble concert at the end of February. For the Fall semester, snare/tenor players meet 1st Period, pit meets 2nd period, and bass drums meet 3rd period. During the Spring Semester, all Percussion Ensemble students must maintain membership in the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Winds, or Symphonic/Concert Band.
Membership carries the following responsibilities:
Attendance at all rehearsals, sectionals, clinics, and performances.
Attendance at summer drum camp (June & July).
Full participation in marching band during the Fall semester and a percussion ensemble during the Spring semester.
Satisfactory performance of the materials assigned for performance and/or competition.
Maintain academic eligibility.
Abide by all Manvel Band Handbook policies.
Percussion camp happens the 1st full week of June from 9:00am-4:00pm with a lunch break, and the week before Summer Band in July. During this time, students work on refining their technique, revisiting fundamental skills, and working on the fall marching show. Battery will incorporate some marching fundamentals in addition to working on the show music. Attendance at these camps are incredibly vital to percussion members, as there is way too much music and learning curves for new battery players to learn before August.
Yes! After percussion ensemble auditions, students will prepare music that will be performed at the Percussion Concert in late February.
