We kicked off the month with the 6th and 7th grades' last Makerspace for the year. Sixth graders were able to make a robotic hand and we talked about how coding and robotics could help increase the quality of life for some. Seventh graders worked in groups to create a bridge that could hold a toy car and withstand an earthquake. We discussed how engineers had to think about materials that could offset the effects of natural disasters and bad weather.
As a School, we read and celebrated our reading! We held our 1st-ever Read-A-Thon, which ended on March 9th, and our students and community rocked this event. We also had falcons participate in the Space Cowboys Reading Challenge again. Students were able to log 4 books and turn the log in to earn a voucher for 2 FREE tickets to a baseball game. These will be handed out to the participating students when they arrive.
Fairview had 16 students participate in the annual Alvin ISD junior high librarians Lone Star Lasso Author Celebration on March 20th! These readers had a blast visiting with other AISD students and listening to two authors.
