PROSCENIUM OPENING: 59'-0"
PROSCENIUM HEIGHT: 18'-0"
APRON: 15'-9"
We have a pit extension that is not included in the apron measurement. This will not be lit.
Alvin High School will provide the Unit Set that all schools will use. Please remember that you can only have the designated number of unit set pieces in a show.
Alvin High School will provide two doors, one window, and one French door. However, please inform the Contest Manager prior to the contest if you are bringing your own door or window units. They are to be made available to all shows.
The school’s personnel will be responsible for moving the Unit Set from its backstage storage position to the stage, and for returning it to the storage position as per the Contest Manager’s instructions.
Unit set can be downstage of the main curtain, with restrictions. Please refer to the UIL Handbook regarding official rules.
Lighting design provided by Blake Minor Design (September 2024).
The center of each lighting area will be marked on the floor for accessibility. If you stand over the marked area, you will be in the center of the area.
The front corners of the stage will not be lit (to SR of Area 1 and SL of Area 2)
The lip of the stage will have glow tape to indicate the end of the lighting area in front of areas 1-5. This is because we have a pit extension, but we will not be lighting the extension for the contest.
While we do have Areas 16-20 marked, it is highly encouraged to complete most of your blocking in Areas 1-15, if possible. Areas 16-20 will bleed on to the back black curtain and/or cyclorama.

We have monitor speakers set up backstage so if you are running front of house sound, you will be able to hear backstage.
Please bring your own device to run sound (either a laptop or other device). We will connect to your device through an 1/8" aux cord. You will also need to provide any adapters needed to run your show.
LIGHTING CONSOLE: Ion Xe (software version 3.1.1.6, 02 March 2022)
Alvin High School will pre-program your light cues prior to your official site rehearsal. "Pre-programming" can occur in one of two ways:
(1) sending completed lighting cue sheets to the host by the designated date on the Planning Timeline; OR
(2) emailing a completed show file by the designated date on the Planning Timeline
Please note that we will be abiding by timestamps on the file before and after the official site rehearsal.
Send .esf2 files with show information only instead of .esf3d files.
No flash drives are allowed during official rehearsals or contest per UIL rules.
Each area has a default warm (R002) key light as well as a top/wash fixture. Key lighting fixtures are ETC ColorSource SPOT (5ch) and top/wash fixtures are ETC ColorSource PAR (5 ch). Since these fixtures are LED, directors will have a choice to indicate color preference and/or manipulate color preference during the site rehearsal using the color picker or other color palettes. The reason that there is only one lighting fixture as front lighting is to avoid spillage into other areas given the architecture of our facility. Not to worry -- we host multiple contests per year, and students are always able to be seen.
Two spotlights are available from our alcoves on the second floor and have access to communications systems. The fixtures are Canto 1200 MSR FF MK2 spotlights. Please contact the site host directly to discuss spotlight usage as architectural necessity requires us to have two spotlight operators when in use.
The in-house projector system is unavailable for use. If you need projector equipment, you will need to bring your own and count it towards your allotment of special lighting equipment.
The cyc is available for use or color may be used on the back blacks.
TIPS FOR FILLING OUT THE CUE SHEET
When choosing colors for your lights, please indicate color using the same gel palettes (R002, L040, etc.) or by simply saying White, Red, Green, Blue, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Amber, or Lime in the color box underneath intensity values. While we typically try to accommodate all scenarios, we cannot spend an enormous of time trying to decipher XY values or moving between 3-4 different color palettes. You may be asked to look at certain cues in your site rehearsal beyond what is pre-programmed if you have specific needs.
Intensity values should be no less than 20% on front lighting or students will not be lit correctly. Likewise, if you have incandescent front lighting on your campus, understand that our lights will appear brighter as we are an all-LED facility, so you may want to adjust your intensities by 15-20%.
If you wish to have side lighting added to your areas (channels 71-81), you will have access to these lights but you will need to add them in your site rehearsal. These fixtures are ETC ColorSource PARs with the ability to add secondary and tertiary color.
Headsets will be Backstage Right (2), Backstage Left (2), Sound and Lighting Consoles (up to 3). Headsets will also be available in the spotlight alcoves, if used.
All companies are to use the in-house intercom system provided to all companies. Any personal communication systems must be approved by the Contest Manager during the rehearsal. Strong justification will be needed, and approval is rarely given.
The grand drape is drawn from stage right.
A video feed will be available on the stage right technical booth for actors needing to see the front of the stage.
Additionally, a video feed of the live performance is displayed in the lobby for patrons who need to exit the auditorium during the performance.
Haze and low-lying fog are permitted in our spaces.
Sand, glitter, and large amounts of baby powder is not allowed on stage.
Water-based products (including stage blood) are allowed on our stage floor as long as it can be cleaned during the strike period and does not get on the draperies.
