Question: How are grades calculated at the end of the school year?
Answer: Elementary grades will be assigned as best we can. Since we do standards based grading, it won't look too different. This video from the district gives more insight! https://www.loom.com/share/526a5568570c4c8993dfd32a36ebac26
Question: How much I should help my child with these assignments? When my child misspells a words, should I correct that? Or let my child sound things out the way he/she hears it?
Answer: When your child is writing stories, it's okay to remind him/her about spaces, upper/lowercase letters, & punctuation. You may even slowly sound out the word, or help your child "chop" out all the sounds in the word, and then write the sounds that were "chopped". However, if your child does't write every single letters in a word, that's okay. The most important thing is to write down the sounds heard in a word. As a general rule, remember this isn't homework. It's class time. It's okay to give instruction and help when needed. This isn't like Lexia. We encourage you to help and give instructions when needed.
Question: While doing Heggerty, my child doesn't respond all of the questions correctly. How much should I help my child with Heggerty?
Answer: Remember, this is a daily practice. If your child doesn't answer a question correctly, please use this time to push pause and have your child make corrections. This is instruction time, please provide additional instructions if your child doesn't understand the task. However, don't make it a stressful experience for your child. We do this daily. You don't want your child to dread this experience because he/she is constantly being corrected. Do it with your child and make it fun if needed.
