FSF (First Sound Fluency): For this assessment, the tester will say a word, and your child should say the first SOUND in that word as quickly as possible. The student will be given one minute to say as many first sounds as possible. The child should NOT have said the letter name, just the letter SOUND. Example: The tester will say “cat”, your child said the sound for c, /c/. Please practice doing this at home and see how many words can be given with the first sound identified correctly in one minute. Make sure that only the first sound is given, and not the first several sounds or the whole word.
The following presentations will help your child quickly say the first sounds in words. You will say the word, and your child will say only the first sound in the word. If you child is struggling with this skill, start with the red PowerPoints. If your child is intermediate, use the yellow PowerPoints. If your child understands the task and is already doing good, use the green PowerPoints to help increase speed.
