What is cluster reduction?
Cluster Reduction occurs when a child simplifies a cluster of consonant sounds into a single sound. For example, they might say “poon” for spoon, or “tuck” for truck. This phonological process should resolve by age 4 for words without /S/ and by age 5 for words with /S/. If it persists past this age, then it can be addressed in speech therapy.
