Everything that you wanted to know, but were afraid to ask:
I was born November 29, 1967 in Payson, Utah. (If you are good at math, you can figure out how old I am.) I was the first baby born in the New Operating Room at Payson Hospital. (This hospital is now the library in Payson.) I am the youngest of 6 children to Dick and Karen Lundell. I grew up in the ‘thriving metropolis’ that is Benjamin, Utah.
Education
I attended Lakeshore Elementary School in Lakeshore, Utah for Kindergarten to 3rd Grade. I went to Brockbank Elementary School in Spanish Fork, Utah for 4th-5th Grade, 6th-9th Grade were at Spanish Fork Middle/Jr. High School. They were one school that was split in half down the middle. We shared the lunchroom and auditorium, but other than sharing a bus, the two schools were separate. I graduated High Honors in 1986 from Spanish Fork High School. I graduated with Honors and Dean’s List in 1988 from Utah Valley Community College with an Associates of an Applied Science and Executive Secretary Degree. I worked for 6 years at Valtek International, (now Flowserve) in Springville, Utah, as an Executive Secretary to the Engineering Director, and the Vice President of Safety. After having 3 children, I decided on a job change and it is the best job in the world, if you can get it and keep only it...being a mother. So I started doing daycare for other working mothers in my home. For a short time, I did have a pre-school in my home.
In 2004 I started working as a Para-educator in the Provo School District. I worked at Sunset View, Amelia Earhart, and Franklin Elementary School. I have worked in One-to-one tutoring, Tutor in Kindergarten and 1st Grade, ESL Aid, and Special Education. I worked with all ages of Elementary Students, K-6. In 2010 I decided that I wanted to continue my education and get a teaching license and class of my own, so I went back to school at Utah Valley University. I graduated Cum Laude with my Bachelor's in Elementary Education in April 2013. The 2013-14 school year, I taught 4th Grade at Redwood Elementary in the Granite School District. I started teaching 3rd Grade at Grovecrest Elementary in Alpine School District in 2014 and moved to Black Ridge Elementary in 2016, and then Cherry Hill in 2018.
Family
I have lived all of my life in the Utah Valley, sounds boring; but it has been anything but dull. I have lived in Benjamin, Spanish Fork, Orem and Provo. 1994, I quit my executive secretary job to be "Just a Mom" to my 3 children at the time. Three more children were added. So I have six children – Logan, Tanner, Brandon, Chelsea, Jesse, Allison and three daughters-in-law named Aubrey (Brandon), Alli (Logan) and Natalie (Jesse) and one son-in-law, Brayden (Chelsea). I love being a Mom & Grammy! I also have a couple of dogs that I consider children, Ice and Indie. Ice is a Wooley Siberian Husky and Indie is a Mini Schnauzer. I also have 8 granddogs: Emmett, Theo, Madsen, Linus, Achilles, Maui, Daisy, Oden and Rexxar and 6 grandcats: Skai, Styx, Stones, Bones, Mocha & Boondocks. FINALLY 6 grandchildren, Robin, Ethan, Eowyn, Ellie and Audrey. Also one grandson, on the way.
Family traditions are very important. When my kids were younger, we had a ‘Family Night Movie Night’ that has been a tradition since 1996. Every Friday night we popped an obscene amount of popcorn and we watched a movie as a family. This tradition continues even today with less kids and less popcorn. 😉
These are a few of my Favorite Things ---
READING! I love to read. My current passion is for audio books. A great APP is Libby. It is an that connections you to your digital library; all you need is a library card. Not only do I love to read, I love to write, when I have the time. I have even had an article published! I love to cook. When I go to places to eat, I will ask for the recipe or I will try to make it at home. I became a Grandma in 2019 and this changed me a little bit, I added a new hobby. I crochet and sell baby shoes & teddy bears. I enjoy the cooking and creating --- but the cleaning up part??? Not so much. One of my family’s favorites is my homemade pizza.
I sew and quilt. This is a tradition that I picked up from my mother and grandmothers. My mother made a 2 quilt for every grandchild, a baby quilt when born and another when they graduated high school. When my mother found out that she had cancer and her time was short, we needed to finish 7 quilts for 7 grandchildren that hadn’t graduated from high school yet – 5 of those grandchildren were my kids. My mother couldn’t help all that much, because she wasn’t feeling well. I made 1 quilt top and quilted 4 quilts and tied 3 others in the 3 months before she died. Since becoming a Grammy, I decided to continue the tradition and started by making my own grandchildren baby quilts; we will see if it continues to graduation quilts.
I love computers. I have to admit to having a bias for Apple computer and Apple products. The computer has given me another creative outlet. I love to film and edit family movies, and make DVD’s. I also enjoy making movies and websites photos of my classroom students for parents to use as mementos. I also like drawing on the computer.
I took 8 years of piano lessons. I wish I could say that after 8-years, I could play anything … but I was a lazy student of the piano. I enjoy playing, but I didn’t put enough effort into being a great pianist. I also love to sing. I was in A cappella Choir in High School. I draw, and have a limited artistic ability.
I love to create … something, whether it is a story, drawing, tole painting, crochet, a movie, or a recipe --- or better students and citizens.
