Resolutions
By Wilbur Johnson
Happy new years! You may be starting the new year with resolutions to better yourself this year but you have no idea where or how to start. Well, this article is for you if you have thought about making resolutions or even if you haven’t. Sticking to resolutions are not always easy but using a different word, making them attainable, and finally having a schedule.
To start, changing the word from “resolution” can be helpful. Teachers, like Mrs. Snow and her student teacher, say they use different words instead to make it seem a little more manageable. Using a different word can make it seem a little less daunting. Instead of resolutions, say goals, objectives, or other synonyms. Different words make it seem a little bit more realistic and less like a promise.
Next, make them attainable! Instead of goals like “get straight A’s” do something like “do my homework.” Making your resolutions less hard to manage helps you stay motivated. You can also cut out resolutions. If you write 10 goals for the year, try and cut it down to 6 or less. Making less goals helps you feel less overwhelmed. In summary, making resolutions manageable helps you work and stay motivated.
Finally, have a schedule. Continuing with the homework goal, set a time each week or however often to set aside everything and do work. Set an alarm for you to stick with that time or that day. Continue working and try not to get distracted. Having a schedule works the best to stay motivated.
In conclusion, making resolutions (or whatever word you choose) can be easier when you follow these tips. I hope these tips help you in your new year. Hope you had a great break and a greater school year.
