Our social studies mission is to create equity for all students in Alpine School District. At the heart of Alpine School District is student learning by ensuring all students acquire essential knowledge, skills, and dispositions. As a result, we have developed a series of district-wide common assessments (District Benchmarks) to ensure equity of student learning throughout the district.
The data from these benchmark assessments can be used by individual teachers and teacher teams to inform their tier 1 instruction. At a district level, the data will be used to learn from each other (tight PLC element #7) and provide high quality professional development through PD days and cohorts.
Teachers of the following subjects will be benchmarking:
7th grade Utah Studies (semester or full year)
8th grade US History I
9th grade World Studies or AP Human Geography
High School US History II or AP/CE US History
High School Government and Citizenship or AP/CE Government and Citizenship
Teachers of elective courses can support their students with the skills of sourcing, corroboration, close reading, and contextualization but students will not be assessed in those courses.
