Intermediate Band performed their Spring Concert on April 3rd at the Athenaeum theater. We performed two songs from our book to showcase our growing note range, including an Algerian tune called Plouf Tizen Tizen and a Chinese song called Ai Hai Yo. For our third piece, Intermediate Band performed their first full band arrangment, Casey's Last Run by Timothy Loest. In a full band arrangement, each instrument has its own part to play, rather than everyone playing the same part all the time. This was their first experience with the kind of music we will be playing in Advanced Band next year!
Intermediate Band had a special band rehearsal on Friday, May 3rd with DePaul music education students that came to visit our school and work with us. The DePaul students worked with AACA students in small group lessons to give targeted instruction for each instrument on their Arts Together music. Then, we came back together to rehearse as a group, where the college students conducted and played side-by-side with Intermediate Band. Our students enjoyed meeting and working with the DePaul students, and it was a fun and productive visit for all!
After the spring concert Intermediate Band started gearing up for a different type of performance for the all school arts event, Arts Together, held on May 22nd. They performed solos, duets, and trios as one of the live performance events of the evening. This was the first time we've performed in smaller groups rather than as a full band, so we really had to work hard to make sure we were ready to nail our performances. Arts Together 2024 was an awesome event and a fun way to wrap up a school year of creativity and artistic growth at AACA!
