Base is where you will live, eat and play during your time on program! It is communal living at its finest. Some call it rustic, others call it home. Base is typically co-ed bunk style dorm rooms with assorted common areas for eating and relaxing.
Location: The base is a house located in Węgrzce, Poland, which is just outside of the regional capital, Kraków.
Sleeping Arrangements: We offer volunteers bunk beds in coed, dormitory-style rooms.
Bedding is provided. This includes a mattress, sheet, pillow, and blanket.
Kitchen facilities: The kitchen at our base will be equipped with basic cooking equipment such as pots, frying pans, basic utensils, cutlery, plates, cups, glasses etc. It will be available for you to use in the morning so that you can prepare your breakfast. You can also use it on your days off and in the evening if you wish to prepare your own dinner instead of the one provided.
We will have a designated storage space where you can keep your food, but we ask that all food is stored in sealed containers. We highly recommend bringing a sharpie/marker to mark your items. Please, note that space will be very limited for storage so try to plan snacks accordingly.

Bathroom facilities: Basic, western-style toilets and showers will be available at the base for everyone to use. We have 3 toilets and two showers available.
Bathroom nr. 1
Bathroom nr. 2
Communal space - We have a dedicated common space at the base where you will be able to spend time with other volunteers, attend daily meetings, eat your meals, and participate in events. Feel free to bring along some board games, footballs, volleyballs, or any other kind of entertainment. We encourage you to consider bringing indoor activities for those times when we need to keep inside.
Please note that during the winter months, our indoor communal space could sometimes feel a little crowded due to the limited space.
Laundry: There is a washer and dryer available on base to use for a fee of 30 Zloty altogether.
Note: All volunteers will be assigned a day to stay on base to help with upkeep and cooking on a rotating basis.
Unfortunately, we can not provide Wi-Fi for volunteers on our base. Volunteers should expect to purchase a local SIM card and data plan. The recommended Sim card is from the brand Orange. SIM cards can be bought at many places: shops, newsagents, petrol stations or the stores of the network operators. Be aware that you will need to register the SIM before use and you will need your passport in order to do this.
Staff can provide a laptop or phone if you need to contact a family member. Laptops and phones will also be available to anyone in isolation. If you regularly need a computer or phone for personal use we recommend bringing your own.
For Poland there are two associated plug types, types C and E. Poland operates on a 230V supply voltage and 50Hz.
We provide three meals a day, six days per week (working days).
Breakfast: Oats, Jam, Bread, Eggs, Tea and Coffee
Lunch: Packed sandwiches
Dinner: Every volunteer will be expected to help prepare dinner for the group on a rotating basis
There will be no meal provided on your day off, so staff and volunteers need to budget accordingly to prepare their own meals, or pay local shops for meals. Vegetarian diets can be accommodated but vegans and those with specific dietary requirements will need to supplement what we can provide with items they bring or source and purchase themselves. You will be able to store personal food items on the shelves but there may not be any refrigerated personal space.
