We welcome and host both volunteers and staff from all over the world. You will be exposed to different cultures, social etiquette and personalities. It is critical that regardless of who you meet or where you come from that you respect each individual, as well as their personal belongings. The organization adheres to a zero tolerance policy around harassment (sexual or otherwise), violence and theft. Please read our Code of Conduct before applying to volunteer. The Code of Conduct contains information on our policies around consensual relationships, alcohol consumption and much more. All Hands and Hearts reserves the right to ask anyone who does not adhere to any element of our Code of Conduct, to leave the program.
We have some regular rules that apply to everyone at all AHAH programs. They are essentially a reflection of our code of conduct. Those are:
Respect one another. We aim to build an inclusive environment where everyone feels safe and happy at all times. Please restrain yourself from using abusive language, saying slur words, fetishising, making remarks about one's physical appearance, gender identity, nationality, religion or other characteristics that might be considered a sensitive topic, making racist or sexist jokes, and any other harmful behaviour. More on this is mentioned in the code of conduct.
Minimalise alcohol consumption. Although you will be allowed to consume small amounts of alcohol at the base, please be mindful that you are representing our organisation at all times while on the program. You, as a volunteer, also often become a role model for the local community and especially minors. Therefore please always be mindful of your actions and try to give a good example. Excessive drinking is prohibited in our programs, and anyone abusing this rule will receive a warning or be dismissed from the program.
Zero-tolerance policy for sexual harassment, drug consumption, and other illegal activities. Please refer to our code of conduct for a detailed list of prohibited acts.
Take care of yourself and one another. We will do our best to create a safe place for everyone to live and work, but it will not be possible without everyone's input. Please follow local restrictions, base rules and common sense - they are all in place for a reason, so please trust us and local authorities.
Respect the local community. We are guests in the Philippines, and we have to respect the local customs and traditions. You might encounter some cultural shock or disagree with some practices, but please try to respect them.
Enjoy your time. We all came here to work and support the local community, but while doing that, we can all have a positive and enriching experience. Make the most of it!
Have an open mind! We are working in and alongside a community who is still recovering from a natural disaster and sometimes access to resources isn’t what is expected and plans change. We ask that everyone has a flexible and positive attitude.
