WORK LIFE

WORK ACTIVITIES

We are currently focusing the majority of our work on rebuilds of homes. The work is detail orientated and consists of installing insulation and drywall, painting, flooring, doors, trim and finish work. We will sometimes work on response sites, for which our work includes debris removal, mucking, gutting, sanitation and mold sanitization. We will also be building handicap ramps for homeowners who are in need of one. Don’t worry if you have never done this before—we will teach you everything you need to know when you get here.

As a member of the DM12 program, you will also be required to complete training and development courses (conducted online and in-person). These courses include humanitarian training, diversity, equality and inclusivity training, team-building skills, cultural sensitivity, ethical storytelling, first aid, technical training and professional development and coaching that includes things such as resume building and leadership management.

Take a look at slide 13 of the practical guide to learn more about COVID-19 preventative measures at the worksite.

TYPICAL WORKDAY

The day starts at around 6:45 am when our team wakes up to get ready for work. Teams will drive out to their worksite each morning, which is usually a 30 -minute drive from our base. During the workday, your Team Leader or Site Supervisor will have several group breaks that are mandatory to stop working get a drink of water, and rest. After you return home from the worksite, you will have a chance to unwind, relax and reflect on your day.
