Holiday is located in the southern part of Pasco County, Florida. It is about one hour drive from Tampa, and 30 minutes for Clearwater. It is a suburban city with a population counted at 21,000.
Holiday is close to the Gulf coast and 10 minutes from Tarpon Springs (Biggest Greek community in the USA) and many nature trails. It is a very pedestrian friendly area, with sidewalks, stores, and shops within walking distance.
WEATHER
The weather in Florida in general can be very unpredictable as far as rain, sun, and cloudiness go. For February, average temperatures range from 60 - 70 degrees Fahrenheit ( 15 - 20 Celsius ). It is recommended that volunteers bring layers and at least one waterproof jacket.
From April the average daily temperature is around 80 degrees Fahrenheit ( 26 Celsius ), which increases during summer months up to 90 degrees Fahrenheit ( 30 Celsius ).
ACTIVITIES DURING YOUR TIME OFF
Holiday and its surrounding area have quite a bit to offer. From Walmart and Target to locally owned restaurants and also a lot of outdoor activities.
Clearwater Beach and the Tampa Riverwalk are about 45 minutes from the base.
Tarpon Springs is about 10 minutes away from base.
There are also many outdoor nature and hiking areas in town such as Starkey Park and the James E. Grey Preserve.
For those wanting to see the wonderful Manatee, Crystal River is located around an hour North of New Port Richey.
For those adrenaline junkies, Busch Gardens Tampa is located about 45 minutes from town and includes rollercoasters and interactive animal exhibits
The area also offers a number of local bars such as The Social NPR which hosts karaoke every week.
