Carriacou is an island of the Grenadine Islands. It is a part of the nation of Grenada and is located in the south-eastern Caribbean Sea, northeast of the island of Grenada and the north coast of South America. The name is derived from the Carib language Kayryouacou.
Carriacou is home to 6,000 people. The capital city is Hillsborough, the only town or city on the island. The port authority is located in Tyrell Bay, where the ferry from Grenada docks.
The community of Carriacou was severely impacted by Hurricane Beryl. They are excited to welcome volunteers into their community to help them recover from this terrifying event.
There are only a few small stores with basic food, drinks, and hygiene products. The best is to come prepared with items from home because the demand for basic necessities is high at the moment.
Grenada Mainlaind is the closest town with more amenities such as larger stores, ATMs, pharmacies, and a hospital. The ferry journey takes about two hours from Carriacou.
During July, temperatures reach the high 80s and low 90s ( 28 - 29 ℃ ), and there is more rainfall. Humidity is high. At night, these temperatures drop to a range of between 19°C and 24°C.
We recommend bringing a head cover, and sunscreen but also rain gear.
