BASIC INFORMATION ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Location: Barrio Nuevo Toltepec, Oaxaca, Mexico.
Cost: Free! We provide 3 meals a day on each working day and accommodation for the duration of your stay. Volunteers are responsible for all other expenses, including travel.
Work Days: Full day from Mondays to Fridays, and half-day on Saturdays. Sundays are days off.
Arrival Days: We welcome new arrivals only on Wednesdays before 6:00 p.m
Accommodation: We’ll provide basic co-ed accommodation in indoor rooms and/or outdoor sleeping in tents as space allows (first come, first served on tent space). If you wish to sleep in a tent, you need to bring your own waterproof, sturdy tent (space for tents is not guaranteed, and large/oversized tents will not be allowed).
Meals: Choice of eggs, local bread or oats for breakfast, traditional Mexican lunch and dinner included 6 days a week. Vegetarian diets are the only dietary restrictions that can be accommodated.
WiFi/Cell Access: The Barrio Nuevo Toltepec area has unstable cell service; our team recommends TELCEL or AT&T.
AHAH does not provide WiFi service for volunteers. However, Wifi is available for purchase at a shop just a few minutes -walk- from our base for a very reasonable price.
AHAH can make program laptops available on a limited-time basis for quick email communications at home or provide program phones for emergency WhatsApp calls at home.
Access: We recommend you fly into Huatulco Airport (HUX), located 46,7 km from the base (73 min drive), or to Puerto Escondido Airport (PXM), 90 km (110 min drive).
We have included more information in our Base Section.
