About this Course: Language is the building block for all reading and writing. The Applying the Kentucky Academic Standards (KAS) for Reading and Writing: Language and Vocabulary in the ELA Classroom module was designed to help teachers understand how to use the multidimensionality view in the KAS in designing and delivering language, grammar, and vocabulary instruction to students. The benefit of this learning is an increased awareness that teaching language, grammar, usage and vocabulary in the context of reading, writing and communicating is the most effective way to meet the intent of the standards and help students internalize the processes.
Learning Intentions/Targets:
Participants will learn:
how the multidimensionality view of the KAS document can help guide instruction
requirements for assignments that will allow students to demonstrate mastery of the language, reading, and composition standards
how assignments reflect expectations
strategies for redesigning current assignments
