About this Course: This module addresses critical basic information about the field of English Learner instruction.


Learning Intentions/Targets:

  1. Identify pivotal events in the history of English Learner programming in U.S. Schools

  2. Develop awareness & understanding of key terms and concepts - Introduce a new term, “Multilingual Learner”

  3. Describe the essence of the challenges for Multilingual Learners who are not yet proficient in English

  4. Explore the stages of language acquisition

  5. Outline the principles for instructing Multilingual Learners

  6. Outline & describe 5 essential evidence-based instructional practices
