Build on the positives! If your child is exhibiting behaviors you do not like refrain from continuously saying things like "no", "stop it", "don't", "knock it off". Try thinking about "instead". Instead of saying those negative things, tell them what you want them to do instead.
Ex: If they are continuing to whine say "I want you to stand up straight, soft, calm hands to your side, voice off, then I can listen to you"
When you decrease your use of negative words and focus on the "instead" you decrease future negative behaviors.
