Check out this wonderful website on PBS for young children who are experiencing uncomfortable feelings when a crisis arises or they are feeling afraid or unsure of what is going on and what to do in case of an emergency.
If your child is having some anxiety about what is going on during the pandemic, here are some coping skills and ways you can work through it together:
CIRCLE OF TRUST
talk about how you are feeling with the people you trust at home
if you have questions, ask the people you trust, to help you understand
keep in touch with friends, even if you are not seeing them every day
video chat or call loved ones who don't live near you.
BREATHE IT OUT
If your body is feeling restless or tense, take some time to sit and slow your breathing. Try deep belly breathing, tracing your hand while you breathe in and out, or tracing your finger around the perimeter of a rectangle while you breathe in and out. Repeat at least 5 times!
Finally, set a small daily goal for yourself. Keep your focus on things you can do! Also, do not forget to look for the fun! Shift your thoughts away from the worries and do something fun! Remember, it's ok to have worries, talk to someone you trust about how you are feeling!
Be kind!! Mrs. Tabor and Mrs. Ausbrooks
