The Big Idea:

A young Indian prince, Siddhartha Gautama, introduced new ideas about reincarnation to India. He became the Buddha, or the "Enlightened One." Buddhism's teachings are based on breaking the cycle of reincarnation. Jainism emphasized peaceful action. Buddhist monks spread Buddhism throughout Asia.
