The Big Idea:
China's dynasties contributed to Chinese culture. the Shang dynasty developed a writing system. The kings of the powerful Zhou dynasty believed they had a Mandate of Heaven to rule. During the decline of the Zhou dynasty, new philosophies emerged, including Confucianism and Daoism.
