World of Work is an fantastic part of the Future Pathways experience at Alice Smith School. This takes place at the end of Year 11, and provides students with the opportunity to learn and develop some of the skills that will be useful to them in the workplace.
Work experience is recommended in for students who are aiming to study particular fields. For these fields, work experience is considered a standard inclusion in applications for schools.
These fields are:
Engineering
Law
Architecture
Medicine** (essential for application)
Other professional degrees
Note: for medical applicants, work experience is essential, though this can be as simple as caring for elderly grandparents, volunteering on a regular basis at a care home or orphanage, or other similar environment, and if possible some first had experience of being in a hospital, though this setting is not required.
As the future work place changes, creative placements together with placements involving digital literacy are becoming highly beneficial!
