In Year 9, you will use George Orwell's Animal Farm to understand the power of rhetoric, explore the poetry of World War 1, explore The Gothic and build your creative writing skills before embarking on your GCSE English Literature journey with an Anthology of Power & Conflict poetry.
Students also have an hour each week for Foundation Studies English. This is designed to broaden students' cultural capital. They study George Orwell's 1984 and Willy Russell's Educating Rita in these sessions, exploring dystopic fiction, social commentary, the dramatic form and a range of the 'big ideas' essential to success at GCSE English.
Students will be asked to complete a 10-minute literacy quiz each week. This will be set on Google Classroom.
Regular revision tasks to support independent learning of your first GCSE texts.
