You can use Google Earth to travel the world and explore new places, as well as to create your own tours and projects with real world locations. The bonus is you don't need to download anything.
Click Voyager from the main menu.
Click Games
Choose a quiz that interests you e.g. Animal Calls. Complete the quiz and then screenshot your result and send it to your teacher.
Explore Street View in Voyager. Take yourself somewhere that you would love to explore further e.g.
Under the ocean
Inside a museum
Football stadiums
Cities
Temples
National Parks
Historic sites
The international space station. And more!
Report back to your class about something new and interesting that you discovered.
Explore Nature and Culture in Voyager. Choose something that interests you e.g. wildlife in Africa. Explore and discover!
Create a tour of some iconic NZ destinations. Where are your MUST SEE places in NZ (some may be well-kept secrets)? Why are these in your top places to visit?
Your tour must include:
A cover slide
A minimum of 6 different locations
Images and descriptions for each location
At least one street view
A line or shape somewhere
Extra for experts:
Can you include a short video clip of one of your destinations
Style each of your placemarkers differently and appropriate to the places
Share your tour with your teacher.
The possibilities are endless! These include...
Literacy: create a tour showcasing places of significance in a book/novel
Inquiry: create a presentation showcasing where famous events happened
Make a biography come to life, including significant places in that person's life OR create a timeline, plotting the 10 most important places in that person's life on a map and describe why they are/were important
Maths - calculate the volume of famous geometrical shapes e.g. Pyramids of Egypt; estimate and measure land areas
Science - track routes of particular wildlife
Literacy - create a fictional story using Google Earth - each placemark can be a page in the story
