What are Baseband Radios?

Baseband radios are the radio components that allow your mobile device to communicate with cell towers. Every mobile device has a built in baseband radio processor, or BRP. These powerful little radios can communicate much further than WiFi or Bluetooth signals can, making them excellent for use during emergencies.

Companies such as Intel, Broadcom, Qualcomm and others burn many features into BRP chips to allow them to efficiently communicate over the best available frequencies. The radios also control signal modulation, encoding, and radio frequency shifting. Baseband radios may be an important component of a HALP protocol.
