Don't forget to check out the special message from your coach under your name. Congrats Class of 2020!!!
I would like to begin by thanking our 7 seniors for their dedication to our baseball program. The frustration I feel for these guys is overwhelming. They have worked so hard to get to this point and have had it all interrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic. The safety and well being of our community has been, and should be priority number one, but the sting of what could have been a great season is tough to take.
The underclassmen and coaches will have the opportunity for future seasons in high school baseball, but our seniors will not. Guys I’m going to say this because I believe it is true. If we were given the opportunity to compete for a GR league title and sectional championship, I believe we would have won it. The talent, maturity, and attitude you guys displayed this pre-season was phenomenal and championship like. However, I also believe the work we put in was not wasted, and I would do it all again even if I knew ahead of time our season would be cancelled. I say that because of all the great memories and laughs we had together. That’s part of the high school experience as well. We didn’t get to add to those memories this season, but the memories from years past I will always cherish and I thank you for. I also enjoyed every minute of the time spent with you guys in years’ past, summer baseball, morning baseball before school, baseball at Young’s barn, and our one week of practice this year. You guys are a special group that I will always think of fondly.
The last thing I’d like to mention is the future of these 7 gentlemen. These guys are a very intelligent group. I don’t think I’ve ever had a group of seniors with the grades and dedication to their school work this group has had. The intellectual debates they have all day long are classic. Most days when I enter the locker room or dugout I wasn’t sure if I was at practice or on the set of Seinfeld. Their intelligence isn’t lost on me, and I’m sure when they graduate they will use it to be successful in the real world, not just to debate what’s better, Doritos or Cheetos. Their future plans listed in their senior biographies are outstanding. I have no doubt they will all reach their goals because they have shown me the intelligence, work ethic, and personalities to meet those goals.
Gentlemen, the best of luck to you in the future. After you graduate be sure you stop by, come watch a game, and say hello. Some of my proudest moments as a coach is when a former athlete stops by and updates me on their lives and family. Looking forward to doing the same with you guys down the road.
Sincerely,
Coach Whitmore
