Meeting Sensory Needs To Manage Student Behavior
We teach students every day in Aldine ISD who are labeled with emotional, behavioral, and learning disorders, and who exhibit problem behaviors that interfere with learning and relationships. Research shows that the use of outdated approaches to control behaviors does not necessarily address the needs of students. This workshop will explore the basics of sensory integration and focus on ways to identify and address sensory needs to manage behavior in the classroom.

SEL: Restorative Circles
This session will provide participants with basic circle elements. Participants will participate in circles during this session as well. Restorative Circles enable a group to get to know one another. They build inclusion. Allows for the development of mutual respect, trust, sharing, and concern. They also provide students with opportunities to share their feelings, ideas, and experiences in order to establish relationships and develop social norms on a non crisis basis. In addition, when there is wrongdoing, circles play an active role in addressing the wrong and open dialogue on what needs to happen to make those “wrongs” right!
