Additionally, as a key member of TaJu, Alexandra has designed professional development and collaborated with various states in its implementation. Griselda is a proud graduate of the University of Houston-Downtown. In 2007, Griselda graduated with a B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies with a certification in EC-4 Bilingual Education. Griselda began her journey in education as a paraprofessional for Spring Branch ISD and Houston ISD where she discovered her passion for early childhood education. In 2008, she began her teaching career as a bilingual classroom teacher at the Lion Lane School for Early Learning in Spring Branch ISD. Since then, she has had the opportunity to work with pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students in both the bilingual and mainstream settings. Griselda is a graduate of the first Early Literacy Leadership Academy cohort. This opportunity has helped Griselda grow professionally and is now serving SLC as a mentor, seminar co-facilitator and presenter. Barbara Andrews spent 27 years as a classroom teacher, ESL teacher, Reading Recovery and Descubriendo la Lectura teacher, and as a district instructional facilitator. During that time, she focused extensively on the needs of bilingual students and English language learners. Barbara’s wealth of experience now helps her provide effective professional development as a National Literacy Consultant for Benchmark Education Company. In this role, she has trained teachers in Alabama, Texas, North Carolina, New York, New Jersey, Oregon, Connecticut, Virginia and many other states through presentations, on-site demonstration lessons, and coaching. Barbara has also successfully supported school districts in the implementation of a comprehensive literacy program over time. She holds a B.A. in Education K-8 from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, an M.A. in Education K-8 from the University of Texas, as well as an M.A. in Reading from the Texas Women’s University in Denton, Texas. As a college student, he worked in the private education sector as a technology educator and adult ESL instructor targeted in workplace English. For the last 13 years, Mr. Carmona has been a bilingual teacher in Aldine ISD; from science, mathematics, and his love and passion for Language Arts.

Astrid Emily Francis is a nationally recognized English as a Second Language teacher at Concord High School in Concord, North Carolina. She serves students in

Her experience as an English Language Learner inspired her to become an ESL teacher and affords her a deep understanding of the challenges her students must overcome to find success. She trained as a teacher with the Region IV ACP Program and has been working as a Bilingual – Dual Language PK teacher at Houston ISD since 2005. Ana is a graduate of the Rice University School Literacy and Culture ELLA cohort one. After her participation in ELLA, Ana has become a voice and an advocate for early childhood education in the community. My name is Esther Ibarra, I'm currently teaching second-grade Math, Science, and Social Studies at Odom Elementary. I have been in Aldine for 9 years, eight of those years at Odom Elementary and one year at Marcella Elementary. Most of my teaching background is in Language Arts, I taught reading for grades 2-4 for 8 years and this year I had the opportunity to teach Math. With this new opportunity, I found a new passion and love for Math, my experience in teaching language arts for so many years has definitely impacted my teaching in Math in a positive way. I am aware and able to transfer the strategies and supports from reading to math, to best meet the needs of my EB students. Moreover, this year practicing and learning new teaching strategies from the Dual Language program has been a great experience for both my students and myself. I can see the growth in their academics and language acquisition in English using the supports implemented in the program. I have witnessed the fruits of this program and I am excited to learn more and see where it will take my students and me in the future.

Mrs. Yvonne Lopez Taylor is an elementary art teacher and an advocate for art education. As the studio art teacher, she teaches art through literature, math, social studies, and science. A nationally recognized expert on the education of English Learners with language and learning disabilities, Dr. Ortiz’s areas of expertise include culturally and linguistically responsive Multi-tiered System of Support and Response to Intervention, second language acquisition, language assessment, and programs and services for ELs with language/learning disabilities. I became fluent in my second language in third grade, and this blessing has allowed me to relate to my EB students and be able to help them academically succeed while also enhancing students' social and emotional growth. I am a fun mother, an energetic sister, a loving wife, and a passionate teacher. Some of my hobbies are boxing, camping, or running around with my sons to baseball practice or games.
