Our favorite things

We thought there would be one activity that would be very popular with everyone... we were wrong! Almost every part of the camp had someone who liked that best. But, don't take our word for it: listen to these audio clips of kids describing their favorite things. [Note: There is a short delay, so be patient. If you are having difficulty playing these, click on the pop-out button on the upper right of the audio box and play it from there.]

My favorite thing about Bonanza Creek was the bunny tracking with Justin. When we went down to the lynx trap. And my favorite thing is when we went four miles that way to hike about… about… wilderness medicine, was it? Yeah, and walking back.

My favorite part about camp was…. The people. And then the relationships.

So favorite part of camp is probably… like the morning circle and the closing circle. ‘Cause we say like, what we did today and what we’re going to do….It tells you the schedule, and I’m gold, so I’m into the schedule. And yeah, we can do like compliment cards… I like getting people fired up…I’m getting fired up.

My favorite part of camp was the soil layers.. learning about the soil layers, that was pretty cool. And also setting out bug traps.

My favorite thing about Bonanza Creek Science Adventure camp was having all these learning opportunities to learn about all these scientific things that I never had the opportunity to learn about. And just being able to connect with all these foster kids my age. It’s just been a really wonderful opportunity, just doing really cool things like looking at this beautiful view walking along the bluff and getting to go on like hikes and eating yummy snacks. The people who have been counselors of this camp have just made it a wonderful opportunity.

My favorite part was going down there (waves toward the valley) and bringing up the soil and looking at the permafrost.

The part about this camp was… building the shelters. The shelters were really fun. We did it at UAF campus and um… there was the spine. The elements of the shelter are the spine, the ribs, y-stick, and the green bits… and that was my favorite part of camp.

My favorite part of Bonanza Creek Camp is…meeting everyone. They are all so nice and they are really kind to me and thanks to Christa over there we get to be here. And I am just really glad I got to spend my summer days with all these nice people.

My favorite part of camp so far has been…probably the animal tracking. I mean… we had this cool guy come with this scanner telemetry equipment, and he scanned for collars he put on bunnies, which I think is an extremely cool method of science. So he took this telemetry equipment and scanned this valley. We heard beeping, but the biggest surprise to him was, most of the animal’s collars he heard, the animals were dead. He thought he’d have some live ones, but only one of his animals was live. So he spent most of his time trying to find a live signal, not a dead one for us. So went out and got to see a lynx trap… it was really amazing.
