Monday

On Monday, we found out that there was a fire in the Bonanza Creek Experimental Forest. With the tents, tables and chairs etc. already at our camp site, we were in a bit of a pickle! Luckily, the Georgeson Botanical Gardens offered us the use of one of their pavilions, and it all worked out great.

Theresa helped us discover our "true colors", and then we relied on teams with members with different dominant colors to build structures that were stable and creative!

We went into the woods, where we learned how to be really observant. Can you find the "grouse"?

Later, Katie showed us how to build survival shelters. Here, she demonstrates what the "spine" looks like. They sure were cozy!

We built leaf packs to test our hypotheses about how best to attract aquatic insects, and used a wide range of tools to identify the plant, insect, bird and fungus species we encountered.
