Transitioning to Blackboard Ultra
Spring and Summer 2026: UAA courses will be set to "instructor choice" (COH will use Ultra)
Fall 2026: All UAA courses will be set to Ultra
January 2027: All old Blackboard Original courses will be converted to read-only

To keep up with updates to Blackboard Ultra, check What's new? Blackboard continues to make changes to Blackboard Ultra based on user feedback via the Idea Exchange. Faculty teaching in Blackboard Ultra will see pop-up announcements each month in their Blackboard Ultra courses describing the new features; be sure to review them. UAA/UAS will continue to adjust settings for our "instance" of Blackboard.

Hello! I have been working for the University of Alaska for over 20 years and I have been an educator my whole career. I have experience as a coach, tutor, mentor, corporate trainer, high school teacher, and university assistant professor. Since 2011, I have had the pleasure of being an instructional designer and I love this job! Here is my CV if you want more details.
What do instructional designers do? Instructional Designers work with Subject Matter Experts (that's you!) to design and develop learning experiences.
Currently I am helping faculty...
create meaningful learning experiences and realistic assessments of student learning based on learning outcomes
implement inclusive teaching practices such as Universal Design for Learning and accessibility
engage students in online and lecture courses
choose instructional technology tools that help meet instructional goals
