Our team will be dedicated to excellence through a relentless effort, winning attitudes and a family bond.
We will pride ourselves on excelling at everything we do.
With a pursuit of excellence- on and off the field.
We will build student athletes in a positive environment through hard work and daily challenges.
We believe in building relationships with athletes and helping them in areas of need.
We will teach young men how to win in football and in life.
In our football program we will emphasize: selflessness, perseverance, moral character, discipline, work ethic, confidence and leadership abilities.
This summer will be our sixth Summer Pride - the kickoff to our season. We will begin the first week of June and continue practice and workouts through August - culminating with our "Thunderbowl Week."
Summer Pride consists of Morning workouts Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. On Mondays and Wednesdays, we will practice on the field after our workouts until 9:30 AM. On Tuesdays and Thursdays we will review film and have leadership seminars. It is our expectation that the athletes are there for at least 80% of workouts and practices. Attendance will be taken everyday.
Fridays are our competition days - we meet at the field at 7 AM and will have different competitions and team building events through out the Summer.
This summer we will attend the Colorado Western team Camp, this is 3 days of full contact Football in Gunnison. There is practice time, 7on7, and full scrimmages with some of the best teams across the state. The team will stay in Gunnison overnight in the dorms and will be fed 3 times a day.
Thunderbowl Week. Every year the 2A State Championship is played at Thunderbowl Stadium at CSU Pueblo (thus the name). Thunderbowl Week will take place the first official week of practice for the Fall season and will consist of practice, workouts, team building, upper classman lead walkthroughs, meetings, film and competitions. Roughly, the schedule will be 8-3:30 AM on Monday and Tuesday then Wednesday through Friday it will be 4:00-10:00 PM and Saturday 9:00 AM till 12:00 PM. It will be the hardest week of the season mentally and physically. You can not miss this week and be a part of the football team, it is mandatory for all athletes and coaches.
During the season, we will meet 6 days a week - this is a big commitment for the athletes and the parents.
Monday through Wednesday we will watch film and practice either at the stadium or the practice field located next to the stadium.
Thursdays during the season are "Walk Through" practices which we hold under the stadium lights - this is also when we have our team dinners and entertainment provided by the team, family is always invited to attend and help out with feeding the team and enjoying team entertainment.
Fridays are Varsity game days. The home games will be played at 7 PM at our stadium and, for away games, times and locations will be posted and provided to the athletes. Every week there will be a "dress out" list provided in the locker room so the athletes will know if they are dressing out for the Varsity game that week. This changes week to week so its never a guarantee that you will dress out for Varsity games.
Saturdays are JV games and film review for Varsity. The Varsity team will meet in the morning before the JV game and review film from the night before. They will also be required to attend home JV games and support their teammates.
Sundays are for family, there will be no team organized events.
Coach Sandlin will send out a message every Monday morning (Through Team App) with the weekly schedule to keep everyone informed of any changes and modifications to the weekly schedule.
During the off-season athletes are encouraged to play other sports, but if you are not participating in another sport, it is the coaching staff's expectation for you to be lifting weights with the team and the strength and conditioning coach. This is done every day after school in the school weight room.
If you are an incoming Freshman, May 1 is the first day you are allowed to come start working out with the team. We will be setting up a time in which you can come to the High School and start our Intro to Weight Lifting class so you are ready for the demands of the weight room during Summer Pride.
Our Staff is also committed to growing during the off-season. The year of 2024 we were able to go to the Glazier Clinic in Denver, Colorado and spent three days listening and learning from some of the best high school, college and professional coaches in the country. We plan to go back in the future off seasons.
We, as a staff, also plan to go to a college campus and spend two days/practices with their Staff, sitting in on their meetings and watching their practices from the sidelines.
We, as a staff, are committed to growing every year and being the best that we can be for your athletes - just as we ask a lot from our athletes to grow and work hard, the same will be asked from our staff.
