Their name will also forever be memorialized in the locker room for future Mean Moose to see.
This award is Named after Clay Garcia, he was a quarterback for Alamosa and a State Champion. He continued his football career at Colorado School of Mines. Clay was a 4.0 student while at Alamosa High School and is the type of person Alamosa Football wants their athletes to look up to. Throughout his career he continued to grow as a athlete and teammate. In his senior year he lead the Moose to a state championship and set the state TD passing record while also winning the Golden Helmet award. The Golden Helmet is given to the best student athlete in football for the entire state of Colorado. We are honored to have an athlete like Clay Garcia to have come through our program and want his name to be a forefront in our program for years to come.

This post season award was created in the Season of 2023. Our program has 3 core values. Attitude, Effort and Family. We felt as though two of our post season awards fit our core values of, Attitude with the Clay Garcia Award and Family with the Mean Moose Award and we wanted another award to fit our core value of effort.
Every year former Alamosa Coach Butch Jones comes and talks to the team. One thing that is always expressed by Coach Jones and his time coaching, living and teaching in Alamosa is that our community is known for being Alamosa tough. We as a team have embraced that belief, we want to play with toughness and we want to be known for being one of the toughest teams on the field every Friday Night.
This award is then given to the player on the team who was seen as the toughest by the captains of the team and played with the most relentless effort all year long.

2023 Xavier Ramirez
